Interaction between CO2-rich acidic water, hydrated Portland cement and sedimentary rocks: Column experiments and reactive transport modeling

چکیده

Percolation experiments, using columns filled with alternating layers of hydrated Portland cement and crushed sedimentary rocks, were conducted at PCO2 = 10 bar 60 °C. Limestone, sandstone marl representative reservoir cap rocks for a geologic CO2 storage site. The injected solution was equilibrium gypsum equilibrated the CO2. main reactions dissolution calcite that constitutes hydrotalcite portlandite cement. resulting porewaters supersaturated respect to aragonite gypsum, leading their precipitation. 2D reactive transport simulations successfully reproduced experimental aqueous chemistry changes caused by major calcite, together precipitation aragonite, dolomite (cement carbonation), alunite. Porosity increased different extents in both rock. Cement degradation noticeable all cases, but even more experiment.

Modeling Fine-scale Capillary Heterogeneity in Multiphase Flow of Co2 and Brine in Sedimentary Rocks

Experimental evidence by several groups, including ours, indicates that spatial variations in the capillary-pressure-saturation relationship can dominate the saturation distribution and transport dynamics of CO2-brine systems in natural porous media. The importance of such small-scale capillary heterogeneity depends strongly on the local balance of the viscous, buoyancy, and capillary forces. I...

Sedimentation and Sedimentary Rocks

Sedimentary rocks are one component of the modern threefold classification of rocks. They derive from the lithification of sediments, which are produced in basically two ways: by the mechanical deposition of grains derived from the alteration of other rocks (detrital or clastic rocks), or as chemical precipitates or grains formed organically or inorganically from an aqueous solution. The whole ...

Simultaneous Ash and Sulphur Removal from Bitumen Using Column Flotation Technique: Experiments, RSM Modeling and Optimization

An efficient method was employed for the ash and pyrite sulphur removal from bitumen using column flotation process. The bitumen samples containing 9.6% sulphur (6.81% in the pyrite sulphur form) and 26.4% ash were successfully showed up to 75.20% of pyrite sulphur (e.g.; 51.66% of total sulphur) and 70.81% of ash removal. The Box-Behnken Design (BBD) was employed to design the experiments, to ...
